Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Beacon Survival ("Beacon," "we," "us," or "our") collects from you, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our website, applications, or services, you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.

Our overall philosophy: collect as little as possible, store it as briefly as possible, and never sell it. The Beacon application itself is designed to function offline and on-device; most of your interaction with Beacon never reaches our servers at all.

1. Information We Collect

When You Place an Order

When you purchase the Beacon App or the Beacon + Oukitel Bundle, we collect what we need to process your order and deliver your product:

We do not store your full credit card number or banking information. Payment is processed entirely through PayPal (see Section 4 below).

When You Subscribe to Our Email List

If you sign up for our newsletter or preparedness email sequence, we collect your email address and (optionally) your first name. This information is stored within our email service provider's system, not on our own servers.

When You Use the Beacon Application

The Beacon application is built to operate offline whenever possible. The Library, maps, saved documents, and most features run entirely on your own device and do not transmit anything to us.

Two specific features may transmit limited data when an internet connection is available:

When You Visit Our Website

Our website is hosted on Netlify, which automatically logs basic technical information about visitors — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps. This is standard server-level logging used for security and performance monitoring. We do not currently use cookies, advertising trackers, or behavioral analytics on the website.

We may add basic, privacy-respecting analytics in the future to understand how visitors use the site. If we do, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify you of the change. We will not use tracking pixels, behavioral advertising profiles, or share visitor data with advertisers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information to build advertising profiles.

3. Email Subscriptions

If you subscribe to our email list, your subscriber data (email, name, signup date, engagement metrics) is stored in Beehiiv, our email service provider. Beehiiv processes this data on our behalf to send emails. Their privacy practices are available at beehiiv.com/tou/privacy.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can unsubscribe at any time and your subscriber record is removed from our active list. We honor unsubscribe requests promptly and never re-add unsubscribed emails without your explicit consent.

4. Payment Processing

We use PayPal to process payments for both the Beacon App and the Beacon + Oukitel Bundle. When you make a purchase, your payment details are entered directly into PayPal's secure system, not ours. We never see, store, or transmit your full credit card or banking information.

What we do receive from PayPal is a confirmation of payment along with the basic order details (your name, email, shipping address if applicable, and the amount paid). PayPal's privacy practices are available at paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full.

5. Third-Party Services We Rely On

Beacon depends on a small number of trusted third-party services to function. We disclose all of them here so you have a complete picture of where any data might travel:

We may use other third-party services in the future (such as a fulfillment partner for hardware shipping, or an analytics provider). When we do, we will update this Privacy Policy.

6. AI-Generated Content and Your Questions

Important Avoid submitting confidential, sensitive, or personally identifying information through Ask Beacon when using the online (internet-connected) mode. Once a question is sent to a third-party AI provider, we do not control how that provider may log or process the request. If you need to ask a sensitive question, do so when the application is fully offline (Beacon + Oukitel Bundle), where the question never leaves your device.

We do not store the questions you submit to Ask Beacon. We may collect anonymized, aggregated usage statistics over time (for example, "how often is Ask Beacon used per week") to improve the product, but these statistics do not contain the content of individual questions or any identifying information.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal data only as long as we need it for the purpose for which it was collected:

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address listed in Section 13. We will respond within a reasonable time, typically within 30 days.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides additional rights, including the right to know what categories of information are collected and to opt out of any "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

If you are a European Union resident, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provides additional rights including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

9. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. These measures include using reputable third-party services for payment processing and email delivery, securing our website with HTTPS encryption, and limiting administrative access to authorized personnel.

That said, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you provide your information at your own risk.

If a data breach occurs that affects your personal information, we will notify you and applicable authorities as required by law.

10. Children's Privacy

Beacon is intended for adults, particularly heads of households making preparedness decisions for their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 13 and we will promptly delete it.

11. International Users

Beacon Survival is based in North Carolina, United States. If you are accessing our services from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where our servers and service providers operate. By using our services, you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our practices evolve, new features are added, or laws change. When we do, we will revise the "last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may notify you by email or through a prominent notice on our website.

Your continued use of our services after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy. We encourage you to check this page periodically.
